I am comforted by the awareness of God.
It
is normal in times of fear or challenge to reach out for comfort.
Children may have a favorite blanket or bear to hug. Physical pacifiers
such as these bring feelings of peace in the midst of distress. There are times in my adult life where I, too, may feel frightened.
Major life transitions, losses, or even new beginnings may cause upset.
In these moments, I seek comfort in God. I may repeat an affirmation
such as: God is my ever-present source of guidance and protection.
I turn to a familiar prayer or a reassuring verse from the Bible. With
these words, I am calmed and soothed. I do not need a situation to be
resolved to find peace. I need only remember that God is ever-present.
Even
though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are
with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me.—Psalm 23:4
