I Practice Self-Compassion On My Forgiveness Journey.
Forgiveness can be difficult, especially in the presence of pain. I may understand the importance of forgiveness and still struggle to forgive. On Good Friday, I think of Jesus asking his tormentors be forgiven even as he was being crucified. Even in his pain, he knew the value of forgiving and believed those who were killing him deserved forgiveness. I carry this valuable lesson with me. I honor my feelings as I move through painful episodes. I value forgiveness and pray for help if it feels hard or if I don’t feel ready. I surrender my forgiveness struggles, understanding all people deserve God’s love and understanding. Just as I have felt the grace of God through being forgiven, I extend that grace as I forgive.
Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”–Luke 23:34
