Releasing Unforgiveness Frees Me.
Being forgiven by someone I have hurt gives me a feeling of great relief. I may still feel sorry about what I did or said, but knowing they are willing to move beyond it helps me forgive myself. I remember this when another’s words or actions have caused me pain. If they come to me asking for my forgiveness, I offer it to them. If I struggle to forgive, I pray for the willingness to try. I can forgive while still maintaining my boundaries, refusing to carry the burden of unforgiveness while doing what I must to protect myself from further pain. Through it all, God is my comfort. There is no unforgiveness in Spirit. As I prayerfully release resentment, there is no unforgiveness in me.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.—Matthew 6:12
